This book is - probably - the best textbook on OpenCV library, imho; written by the creators of OpenCV.

The words used in the book are easy to understand and the authors did a good job presenting the technical details.

The source code - ansi C (c99) - is well written and the example are downloadable for free; OpenCV library is an OpenSource project - by intel corporation.

This book introduces you to computer vision and demonstrates how you can quickly build applications that enable computers to "see" and make decisions based on the data. Computer vision is everywhere -- in security systems, manufacturing inspection systems, medical image analysis, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, and more. It helps robot cars drive by themselves, stitches Google maps and Google Earth together, checks the pixels on your laptop's LCD screen, and makes sure the stitches in your shirt are OK.

Tanenbaum ha scritto alcuni tra i libri piu' utilizzati in ambito accademico, i suoi libri infatti, oltre ad essere estremamente leggibili, sono pregni di codice sorgente - per lo piu' ANSI C - con cui ci si puo' confrontare in ogni momento.

La caratteristica del testo in oggetto, che in realta' mi ha un po' sorpreso, riguarda il sistema adottato, ovvero MINIX, definito dal Tanenbaum stesso come un clone di UNIX; il libro pertanto tratta lo studio di un sistema operativo reale, MINIX appunto, sezionandolo in ogni minima parte.

E' un testo estremamente interessante proprio perche' riguarda alcune tra le strategie adottate dal progettista per costruire MINIX; direi che non e' adatto come testo di base per lo studio dei sistemi operativi, ma piuttosto puo' essere utilizzato come un eccellente supporto alla scrittura di un sistema reale.

Eccellente come sempre il Prof.Tanenbaum.

Lo stato dell'arte dei compilatori.

In perenne consultazione, e comprare la nuova edizione non mi sembra saggio - piu' che altro non me la sento, poiche' sono realmente affezionato al "dragon book - ma primo o poi lo dovro' fare.

E' arte pura Signori, l'informatica al livello piu' alto; ci sono voluti anni per comprenderlo appieno, l'avro' ripreso in mano centinaia di volte, e lo scotch e' l'unica salvezza di alcune pagine. Lo amo - metaforicamente parlando - piu' che altro amo i concetti, un compilatore e' l'essenza dell'informatica stessa.
