The Stone Roses and the resurrection of British pop

For fans -
A must read for fans or anybody wanting to know more about this legendary band. Not the best written book (hence the 4 stars), but informative enough.
I especially enjoyed the first chapters about the genesis of the band and their formative years.
The author takes a fairly balanced, unbiesed approac ... (continue) - — Jan 14, 2010 | Add your feedback

For Alex James, music had always been a door to a more exciting life: a way to travel, meet new people and, hopefully, pick up girls. But as bass player of Blur – one of the most successful British bands of all time – his journey was more exciting and extreme than he could ever have predicted.

I got into it slowly as the premises of the story are fairly disturbing, but once I got into the core of the plot I just could not put it down!

I found the storyline a bit contrived, but thoroughly enjoyable all the same. Ram is a lovable character and the book depicts a very lively, colourful, tragic and comical image of modern India. A good read.

I am surprised by how much I enjoeyd this book, considering how sad the story is.
The main plot revolves around the figure of Robin Grant, a depressed post-graduate student and wannabe writer, who finds himself in an unexpected sticky situation.
The narration of his predicaments is interrupted by four short stories - written by him - each of them an insight to his mind and philosophy on life.
It's what others make of his writing, how he is percevied by those that come in contact with him and the sense that understanding someone else is a complex, near impossible task that makes for interesting reading.
