Cover of Plainsong
  • A well written book that makes you care about the characters. I especially loved the two brothers that took the girl in. They reminded me of my grandfather.

Cover of Geek Love
  • A man and a woman who own a circus decide that it would be cheaper to make their own "freaks" than to hire them.

A strangely intense book. I felt weird for reading it, but at the same time I couldn't be persuaded to put it down because I just had to know what would come next. It's definitely a book you'll be thinking about long after you read it, whether it be in a good way, or with a strange fascination. I was telling my husband it's like seeing a car wreck on the side of the road... You don't want to look, but you can't look away. ... (continue)

Cover of Sick Puppy
  • In this book a man has a serious aversion to people littering. When he sees someone throwing trash out the window of an expensive car, he tracks the guy down and causes all kinds of trouble. An interesting take on political corruption as well, which is probably unfortunately, not far from the truth.

This wasn't really my normal type of book. It was okay, not a total waste of time, but not something I'd rave about either. ... (continue)

Cover of Angela's Ashes
Cover of Skipping Christmas
  • When a couple decides they are tired of spending so much money on Christmas, they decide to skip it, and go on a cruise instead. Things don't quite go as they planned, and the fun begins.

A really cute quick read that I enjoyed. The ending is great.

Cover of Quiver
  • This wasn't terrible, but it wasn't good either. He writes in so many different points of view from so many different characters that it the story felt disconnected. The plot line was good, but the style... not so much.

Cover of Like Water for Chocolate
  • I read this all in one sitting. It reminded me of a fable, or a fairy tale. Really different book. I liked it.

Cover of Flying Changes
  • A lovely novel with a fast moving plot. I had a hard time putting this one down, and I'm wondering if there will be another in the series.

Cover of Riding Lessons
  • I really like the style and the plot line in this book. I'm planning to read the next in the series. These are by the same woman who wrote Water for Elephants which is amazing. Great book.

Cover of My Sister's Keeper
  • I wish there was a higher rating than 4 stars. This book would deserve 5 or more. A magnificent book, filled with very human emotions, and difficulties. A beautiful story, with an unexpected ending that will leave you shocked. I never cry, and I bawled. A must read. Wow.

Cover of Death Swatch
  • Another great book in the Scrapbooking Mystery series! I really do enjoy reading about the culture and history of New Orleans that she incorporates into these books. I can't wait until the next one comes out in Fall 2009!

Cover of While I Was Gone
  • I tried reading this all day off and on today. I am on Chapter 7, and it just never picked up. While I very seldom abandon a book, I'm just going to have to put this one down. I don't like the main character either. She seems exceedingly selfish. I wouldn't recommend this one at all.

Edit* I went back and finished reading it. I always feel guilty to abandon a book and it was bothering me. Upon finishing it, it got a little better, but not much. I still found the main character self centered and irritating. ... (continue)
