Cover of TWO HUNDRED MEN, ONE WOMAN
  • Ever pick up a book that looks so bad, you want to read it just for the awful content? So far, I've discovered that being historically accurate doesn't mean squat if it's not interesting.

Ever pick up a book that looks so bad, you want to read it just for the awful content? So far, I've discovered that being historically accurate doesn't mean squat if it's not interesting.

Also, I haven't quite gotten to the part where there's a giant sailor gang bang, which appears to be the whole point of the novel. Why else would you give your romance novel a pornographic reference-inspired title?

Update: Finished the novel, and am still amazed I got through it. This is truly terrible, and I'm sure that, though I would have trouble creating a decent novel of my own, I could probably do a better job at changing back and forth between points of view so as not to confuse the reader. Also, the near-constant barrage of poor quality drawings throughout the book helped to create a rather annoying pastiche of not-quite-relevant visual material for the plot. I completely understand now why this particular novel was being given away and not sold.

Cover of The Lolita Effect
  • Good, but gets a little preachy at times.

Cover of The Coldest Winter Ever
  • While I appreciate the messages put forth by this novel, Sister Souljah definitely improved her writing when writing Midnight, which I enjoyed more. Though a good story, this one had some rough edges and choppy moments when the plot transitioned from one character to another.

Cover of Burning Bright
  • Once again, Chevalier paints a rich picture of lives surrounding a famous historical artist. Though a work of fiction, it gives enough snippets of William Blake to tie together the lives around him and make the connection between him and the children worthwhile.

Cover of Can You Keep a Secret?
  • Kinsella's characters are hilarious and endearing. Emma Corrigan makes me laugh because I can relate to her in some ways-- her awkwardness reflects a little bit of something in every female I know.

Cover of One Arrow, One Life
  • I really wish the rating system was five stars and not four. It's more than so-so, but it's not quite good enough to be quite good.
