这本书包括的内容还挺多的，可总感觉吧，很不严谨，不像是研究，倒像是明清文人写笔记小说的路子。
比如说，经常引用些三言二拍里的小说当成史料，好比用那个转运汉倒卖洞庭红当成当时洞庭湖地区出产果品还远销海外的佐证，简直太神奇了，那是不是同理可证，当时海外还出产千年龟壳，每个龟壳里有二十四个夜明珠哩？还有红楼梦里的“茄鳖”，明明是小说家言，实际上贵族家里没这么做菜的，也被当成是真的。
