Cover of WILDSTORM
  • Last piece of a bigger puzzle bringing to the "Armageddon" event in the Wildstorm Universe (WU). Christos Gage does a great work in reconnecting a lot of loose threads that were created by single authors (but mostly by Warren Ellis in Authority) in the not-planned "history" of WU.
Nonetheless, the idea of a catastrophe to be avoided has been already used to death in comicbook "universes" and specifically in the WU more than ten years ago (and maybe Jackson King new look in this future world, so similar to the one of his deceased father in that past storyline is an intentional "self-quotation")...the dialogues are funny, though, and it's a fast and entertaining reading.
As far as the art...when forced in some panels, Craig seems to forget everything about anatomy: look for example at giant-headed-short-legged Backlash and Grifter in the first two panels of page 105...
Read it just if you're a WU fan (I'm a huge one, for the record). ... (continue)

Cover of On Writing Horror
  • A manual for aspiring horror writers: the chapters on "the craft" are maybe a little too basic if you have already publish something (but some of them are useful in general, not only if you want to write horror), while the ones dedicated to market/promote your short stories contain simple but very practical (and useful) suggestions. ...
