Cover of Loving Frank
  • The book caught my eye on the shelf because of its beautiful stained glass window cover. I picked it up and opened it - the quote inside says people will pick this up because of Frank Lloyd Wright, but they will keep reading because of Mamah Cheney. (That was so me! hmmm... maybe it's meant to be)
It's the story of a love affair between the incredible architecture and one of his clients.
I'm only into it the first 50 pages, but i love the story so far. I really reading of Chicago in the early 1900s. The author slips in the history and city very well, without it being a teaching lesson.
I hope it keeps up this well throughout the book! ... (continue)

I had a very interesting realization while reading this book in Mr. Gaydos' English class. I had read Lord of the Flies a couple years prior to this class, and I knew how it ended. We were having in class silent reading, and I was coming towards the death of Piggy, and i closed my book and put it down. I didn't want him to die. I looked around the room and wondered where other people were in the book. Was Piggy already dead? I thought about how if i just stop reading now Piggy will still be alive. I didn't finish the book that time. I wanted it to 'end' with Piggy still alive, at least in my book. ... (continue)

Cover of Hatchet
  • One of the Top

Besides "The Little Prince", this is the book that i have reread the most often. I passed along a copy to my godson a few years ago too. Being in the woods, surviving on your own, learning to trust yourself, communing with animals, this is definitely one of my favorite books. I think i should read it again soon too. ... (continue)

Cover of The Lovely Bones
  • did not stop

This is the only novel i have ever read cover to cover in one sitting. I remember the night very well. I had borrowed it from my little sister a few days prior, and i was lying awake in bed, couldn't sleep. I picked it up, hoping it would be boring and lull me into dreamland. I had to work in the morning, and i needed rest. I think i only got an hour of sleep that morning. I started reading and could NOT stop. I kept thinking "this chapter would be a stopping point", but it never was. I just wanted more and more. and i also cried and cried and cried! Very sad, but quite meaningful and touching, especially if you have had to grieve from a death in your family. I recommend it for someone who has a few hours to kill, and doesn't mind getting swept up in an emotional journey of two sisters, one whom is dead, but not quite gone from the earth.

The only reason i don't give it a "love it" rating was because it emotionally effected me so much. I think i had a couple nightmares over the weeks following reading it. Lovely Bones does have a bit of a 'horror' part to it. ... (continue)
