this is the "director's cut" of a book i had read a while ago without a clear impression of its worthiness. I somehow missed the point of it all, not even understanding if it had a point at all.
I do not remember it enough to see the differences in the old version and this one, which should be the one that the author's like best, among the several he came up with to obey his ideas and his publisher's suggestions and a lot of other inputs.
I am definitely happy I gave it a chance, though. I am still not sure I get the point, but I enjoyed it thouroughly, the plot, the language, the characters, the irony.

Does anybody care about Mrs Humphreys pregnancy?
Of course not really: it's a very common story of a very common period in a couple's life.
Nevertheless, Neil Humphreys is a good writer and very humorous, and he has been able to tell exactly the same story almost every normal father could tell you in a fascinating and funny way.
Furthermore, in sharing his experience as a father-to-be he explains and points out a lot of useful information and tips.
Obviously the book is interesting for first-time-fathers-to-be, and probably a complete bore for everyone else.

Mr. Monk is a lovely, endearing and fascinating character, as much as he is unnerving.

He had the potential to be a new Sherlock Holmes, unfortunately, Lee Goldberg is not Conan Doyle, and this is clear both in the plot and the writing style.

In the end, this is not a masterpiece, but still a pleasant book that can be easily enjoyed.
