  • Not my favorite

    I've read many of James Lee Burke's books, but this one was not one of my favorites. It was heavily focused on the aftermath of Katrina, but other than that it seems to follow the same formula, and I think I've burned out on it.

    This book is a throwback to pulp science fiction. It's main character is a larger than life businessman who has made and lost dozens of fortunes, and is always chasing and bedding every nearby female. I had a hard time enjoying it as the plot twists are completely transparent and the main character seems more like the author's fantasy of himself than a compelling or interest character of his own.
