Cover of "Fortress of Ice"
    • Best Cherryh I've read in a long time.

It looks like Cherryh is beginning another section of the "Fortress" series, now going on with Cefwyn's two sons. Though it seemed to take a long time to get things really going, the book was satisfying in the end, bringing back characters we remember from the first series, and concluding well. I think Cherryh's weakness is her endings, but she did very well in this book.

I recommend this book, but be sure to read the others or you will probably be completely lost. If you have read them, you may want to review.

This book is a very satisfying book to read. It is straightforward with no going on and on about minutia, but rather a sort of overview of the major events and themes in Gene Wilder's life. It is not a piece of humor, though it has some humorous moments. I saw in the pages a gentle, interesting person who has had lots of lucky breaks.

As a side note, I'd like to comment that Mr. Wilder does discuss his love life, and though there is nothing explicit in it, if this kind of thing bothers you, please proceed with caution.

Then ending was lackluster and would have loved to see the main character go on to more ambitious things. Maybe there will be a sequel :)

FAQ See all

I see a shelf I like. How can I keep track of its updates?

If you know the person, add as a friend. Otherwise, add as a neighbor. Either way, you will get to stay on top of future updates via RSS feeds.

I see a shelf I don't want to ever see again. What can I do?

Choose "block", and this shelf will be filtered out for all purposes.

How does the voting work?
Find a comment helpful / unhelpful? Cast your vote. Only one vote from each person will be counted. Every hour we gather all the votes, add them up, add some magic source, and there we have the new sorting for the comments on the page of this book!
What's the difference between friends and neighbors?
Friends are people you know. Neighbors are people you don't know but you'd like to keep track of their updates anyway.
Would I would leave a trace when I visit other people's shelf?
You get to choose. If you can choose to visit anonymously, you will not get to see who has visited your shelf. Fair deal.
