    • This was a fun read, but the quality wasn't there. I think it would be a good book to discuss. The idea Westerfeld brings to YA literature is interesting--if everyone were beautiful and happy would the world be a better place? Hmmm....Questions (potential spoilers)1. The idea Westerfeld brings to YA literature is interesting--if everyone were beautiful and happy would the world be a better place? Hmmm....Questions (potential spoilers)1. Which character could you relate to more, Shay or Tally? Why?2. What do you think of the idea of becoming pretty at the age of sixteen? Do you think this would really make life better? Explain.3. At the end of the story would you have done the same thing Tally did? If not what would you have done? Explain.4. What are your predictions for the next book Pretties?

I thought this book had a very interesting concept. I find it hard to believe that companies would actually pay kids to look for and create new trends, but then again, I wouldn't put it past them to make a buck. While I wasn't completely impressed with the book I think it might be a good book to discuss for teenagers. I think it raises some interesting concepts when it comes to consumerism and why people buy what they buy or like what they like. I kind of found it annoying that the author kept hinting at "product placement" but did not come out and say what product/brand was being referred to. Some were very obvious while others were not. Nike was the big one that the book centered on.

Cover of "Peeps"
    • A fun read which was very interesting and disgusting. A new look at why vampires exist and how they come to be. Every other chapter looks at a parasite and explains it--the disgusting part.

FAQ See all

I see a shelf I like. How can I keep track of its updates?

If you know the person, add as a friend. Otherwise, add as a neighbor. Either way, you will get to stay on top of future updates via RSS feeds.

I see a shelf I don't want to ever see again. What can I do?

Choose "block", and this shelf will be filtered out for all purposes.

How does the voting work?
Find a comment helpful / unhelpful? Cast your vote. Only one vote from each person will be counted. Every hour we gather all the votes, add them up, add some magic source, and there we have the new sorting for the comments on the page of this book!
What's the difference between friends and neighbors?
Friends are people you know. Neighbors are people you don't know but you'd like to keep track of their updates anyway.
Would I would leave a trace when I visit other people's shelf?
You get to choose. If you can choose to visit anonymously, you will not get to see who has visited your shelf. Fair deal.
