Edit / Review
Jane Eyre: (Penguin Popular Classics) By Charlotte Bronte
Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde: (Penguin Popular Classics) By Robert L. Stevenson
The Optimist's Daughter By Eudora Welty
The Secret Agent: (Penguin Popular Classics) By Joseph Conrad
Heart of Darkness: (Wordsworth Collection) By Joseph Conrad
  • Those who say that this is a racist and pro-colonialist novella don't know anything about how to read fiction. Conrad's masterpiece is a must-read for every literature person.

Billy Budd: and Other Stories (English Library) By Herman Melville
To the Lighthouse: (Penguin Popular Classics) By Virginia Woolf
Cultural Criticism: A Primer of Key Concepts By Arthur Berger
  • A very easy to read introduction to cultural criticism book. Some might find the language distracting sometimes, as the book sometimes makes use of weird and politically incorrect (in my opinion) examples. But still, it's quite good reading for a start.

Chimera By John Barth
  • What an awesome postmodern text. Barth rewrites One Thousand and One Nights, and stories about Ancient Greek mythic heroes and mixes these with his wittiness.

A must read if you are into this kind of stuff.

The Great Gatsby By Francis Scott Fitzgerald
  • Postmodern American fiction is great, but I don't think the same for American modernist prose fiction.

The Language of New Media: (Leonardo Books) By Lev Manovich
The Monstrous-Feminine: Film, Feminism, Psychoanalysis (Popular Fictions Series) By Barbara Creed
  • What a great book! Famous film studies scholar Barbara Creed bases her argument on famous Julia Kristeva's concept of abjection.

This book also serves as an introduction to Kristeva, and is wonderfully written and is very easy to read.
