Cover of Tunnels
Cover of The Goose Girl
  • My wife picked up this audio book for my kids to listen to on a recent trip. Although the audio version doesn't have the best voice talents on board, the story is very clever. A great one to read with your kids.

Cover of I Am Legend
  • I had no idea this book was about vampires! I liked this book a whole lot, but probably because I had no idea what to expect and the book's focus on science was interesting to me. The ending left a little to be desired, but they all can't end the way you want.

Cover of Brisingr
Cover of Eldest
  • I liked this one even better than the first in the series. Paolini makes it pretty easy to forget you're reading a Young Adult novel most of the time. Can't wait to begin the last book.

Cover of Eragon
  • My first Young Adult book in a while and I enjoyed it quite a bit. This is no work by Tolkien, but pretty impressive for a teenager. The influence of many fantasy authors is evident, but the story is plenty original. I already started on the next one.

Having enjoyed the movie, I was curious to see how this book differed. I was pleased with the many differences and complexity. I had a really hard time putting the book aside........until the end. Why didn't somebody tell me it ended that way!? Poor Mercedes! For some reason I couldn't get past the idea of him abandoning the love of his life. The thought of her was what sustained him for 14 years in a dungeon and how does he repay her? He destroys her life, abandons her in poverty, and runs off with his Greek slave! I still can't believe it!

Cover of Team of Rivals, the Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln

Took a long time to get through this one, but I loved every minute of it. Just about any book about a larger-than-life figure such as Abraham Lincoln is going to be great, but Goodwin really did a great job with this one. I feel like I learned quite a bit about the events surrounding the Civil War and the prominent figures of the era. Most of all I have a clearer picture of Lincoln himself.

Cover of Decider
  • This is the second Dick Francis work that I have read and I've gotta say I'm hooked. Whenever I'm in the mood for a light, refreshing, entertaining read, I'll go looking for a novel by Francis.

Cover of 10-lb Penalty
  • My first Dick Francis novel and I liked it quite a bit. The mystery was a little predictable, but everything else about the book was great. I listened to the audio version and the reader did a fantastic job.

Cover of Lincoln Legends
  • Even if you don't know much about Abraham Lincoln, you'll likely find this book to be interesting. You'll probably also find that you've heard a lot of bogus stories about Abraham Lincoln and how the author has disseminated those myths.

Despite being the all-time classic sci-fi novel, I never grew too attached to this book. It was a little too far-fetched at times even for a science fiction novel. In part, it might have been due to the fact that the audio version wasn't all that great. Sometimes the narrator performed all the dialogue and sometimes other performers jumped in which led to a lot of confusion at first. Some of the voice talents were a little cheesy as well. Regardless, you have to wonder how Frank Herbert pulled all of this out his head. Undoubtedly, he has influenced many of the major sci-fi epics that we know of today. Worth the read, but I doubt I'll join all the Dune enthusiasts.
