did you find Grapes Of Wrath relevant? it seems to me(having lived in Calif) that the state is almost back to that era.

Oh man, I am EXACTLY the same. I call buying books like that "adopting" them. I always tell EJ that I shouldn't go near the bookshelves at thrift stores because I know I'll find one or two that look lonely and I'll want to adopt them. But then he's just as bad, and we both give in to the temptation.

Nope, just that one novel. I will definitely have to check it out! I actually have two of his other books... "The Lost Continent" and "A Short History of Nearly Everything". I just don't know when I am going to get around to reading it because I've been on a scientific nonfiction and fantasy kick recently. Haha, probably in the new year. I am so bad sometimes. I have a huge collection of books and I've barely touched it.

Hahaha, oh man! Pretty much the same exact thing. I was going to say that at times I kind of enjoyed the rich/snobby undertones, but for the most part I can't stand that better-than-thou attitude. The way she read to escape her life kind of reminded me of myself when I was a kid. The thing that probably irked me the most was her boyfriend and how he went from being an alright character to... I don't know. I just can't see that kind of change in a person happening so fast. In any case, it was a really entertaining read. I have a quote from it up on my profile.

How was the Bill Bryson book "Neither Here Nor There"? I've only read "A Walk in the Woods" from him and was curious about some of his other titles.
