I absolutely loved this book! Amazing writing and storytelling, and an amazing story (with stories within the story) to boot!

It truly is an amazing and inspiring read. Everyone should really read it- those who want to run, do run, or are considering running!

Cover of How to Practice

This book is a translated document of His Holiness the Dahli Lama, briefly explaining the Buddhist beliefs on meditation, the different Sutras, and how to focus on having love and compassion and dispelling hatred, anger, and jealousy in your life to attain peace and enlightenment. Further in the book, His Holiness delves into the latter stages of Sutras and meditation, towards enlightenment and Buddhahood, but it gets very confusing and frustrating (and philosophical) when discussing how emptiness is form and form is empty. Got me all confused and mixed-up!

It was worth a read- and a re-read, in the future. Definitely enlightening into the thoughts and mind of His Holiness, and in the practice of the Buddha religion.

Cover of Mermaids in the Basement
Cover of The Secret Bride
Cover of A Voyage Long and Strange
  • interesting history lesson

This is a very interesting book. This author did loads of research and fact-finding, so props for that.

The way it's written, he goes through (chronologically) what foreigners landed where and when, and tries to travel along their routes, interviewing people in the region along the way.

The history is interesting- can be a little tedious to read through, can also be very gruesome to think about. Some of his facts I disagree with regarding Native Americans, but the man did his research and he's only human.

The most interesting parts of the book were his interactions with the "locals" along his travels. Very interesting stories and points of views.

It is worth the read if you're interested in learning more about our countries history, and the travels of a Jewish author through America's past traveling in modern times.

Cover of Ghosts of San Antonio
  • cute ghost book

This is a great collection of stories of ghosts in San Antonio. The introductions to each of the stories are a little repetitive and redundant. Overall, though, a good ghost book.

It could use more specifics as far as sightings, events, and other strange occurrences though.

Cover of Can I Keep My Jersey?
  • Great cynical writing!

I really love the way this guy can laugh at himself, be critical of himself and others, and tell some amazing stories and share his adventures.

    Great read- highly recommend it!
