El lado fantasmal de Ai Yazawa

Le pongo un 2/5 porque, saboreando lo mejorcito de la mangaka ésto me sabe a poco. Y he leído mangas muy en la línea de éste peeero... le han antecedido "Paradise Kiss" y "Nana", así como "Gokinjo Monogatari" y "No soy un ángel"...
No es de extrañar pues que éste manga, cortito, de 3 volúmenes, sie ... (continue)

Le pongo un 2/5 porque, saboreando lo mejorcito de la mangaka ésto me sabe a poco. Y he leído mangas muy en la línea de éste peeero... le han antecedido "Paradise Kiss" y "Nana", así como "Gokinjo Monogatari" y "No soy un ángel"...
No es de extrañar pues que éste manga, cortito, de 3 volúmenes, siendo mediocre -en cuanto a que no sobresale- en el género fantasmal-thriller pues me decepcione. Aunque bravo por el esfuerzo a Yazawa, alternar lo necesitan incluso los artistas -yo, amando los romances o novelas históricas, acabaría de empacho por odiarlos-.

So, so, so beutiful! I like its plot even when sometimes you say to yourself "wait a minute! Would I be able to suppress my feelings for so long, no matter that it is for the sake of our eternal friendship?" Very difficult in the real life, or not because there are stories in this world than deserve more shocking faces than invented ones.
However, I loved it so much, I will never forget the scene when one of them tries to reach the back of the other. So touching, so much despair.
There are another one shots in this manga.

It could have been better/Podría haber sido ... mejor

I ended up kind of tired of the main male´s background and I didn´t find it so an innovative thing the topic of death and body´s treatment after death.
I expected more action and it does not compensate me the "shocking" scenes.

It creates a strange, heavy, stifling, foggy, dreadful, irreal, suffocating... environment. It does not respect your senses, it explodes your feelings and nearly drives you insane with its main character.

It creates a strange, heavy, stifling, foggy, dreadful, irreal, suffocating... environment. It does not respect your senses, it explodes your feelings and nearly drives you insane with its main character.
Beauty, desires, eternal youth, commercial interests, human trading, flesh and blood, madness, insecurity, needs, sex, hideous draws... Our society is played and represented by such a mangaka who breacks down every rule she can and far more if possible.

Orgía, sexo, locura, necesidad, deseos, eterna juventud, cirugía, sucios secretos, imágenes grotescas, tráfico humano, carne y sangre. Un ambiente asfixiante, que ahoga, que no deja respiro a tus delicados sentidos a recuperarse, que hiere sensiblidades, que rompe tabúes, que desgarra los ojos. Un dibujo feo que refleja una sociedad no menos fea y retorcida, un retrato que exagera los males hasta convertirlos en realidades palpables, hasta convertirnos en títeres como esos mal proporcionados personajes que se dejan llevar por la masa, por los intereses egoístas, por las pasiones desmedidas que empujan al borde de un abismo sin retorno.
Porque todos somos inseguros en nuestros adentros, porque todos tomamos decisiones que cambian radicalmente nuestras vidas, porque el sexo a veces convierte en idiotas a los buenos, por la insana compra-venta de sentimientos, libras de carne y roles humanos.

Sí, sí, está explotado esa Japón de Madame Butterfly, de "Memorias de una geisha" y demás sucedáneos pero... esta geisha no es pasiva, no es dulce, no es sosegada, se comporta en todo momento con desparpajo, rebeldía, rabia, fiereza. Es una bestia que se resigna a zarpazos a su destino, erizado el pelaje en todo momento pese a las sedas que la recubren, es una geisha que lucha en todo momento con la amargura de saberse perdida, una geisha que muestra su cariño con miradas asesinas y gestos bruscos, que no se detiene a pensar en las consecuencias de su actitud insolente.
Otro punto de vista sobre las geishas que me sorprendió gratamente, no todo ha de ser dulce y la mente pide a gritos que haya un cambio de registro. Me recuerda a Scarlett -si se me permite comparar- por su valiente debilidad, escondida en el armazón de la ironía y de dar un golpe primero antes de que se lo den, por ser una superviviente que, con los ojos llorosos, alza la mirada desdeñosa.

I like it all, I like the story of two mature men loving each other, I love how it does not cut out the sex scenes, I simply love how Japanese culture can accept it so naturally, without giving unnecessary second thoughts about it.
I haven´t had prejudices at all in my whole life about gays or homosexual in general, and this manga shows this love in a good way, as another love story would be. The struggle of giving all of you to another person.

Me encanta esta mangaka, sobre todo sus dibujos, cómo no, pero también porque este manga me abrió el apetito para reconciliarme con las historias de amor gays en los mangas. No todo es sexual con tendencia a porno dibujado en el manga -menos mal- y hay buenas historias de amor con temas profundos que rebuscar, que te obligan a leer entre líneas.
"Koi no Hanashi ga Shitai" ("I need to talk to you" o en español "Necesito hablar contigo") cuenta la historia de un hombre de mediana edad que se declaraba asexual o de los que nunca se enamora para pasar a descubrir que es homosexual e iniciar una relación de amistad con derecho a roce. Pero más tarde se enfrenta a la nueva experiencia de enamorarse, esta vez de verdad. Emociona ver miradas dibujadas que se clavan la una en la otra y cobran vida.

Well done! The draws which require quite an effort to such details -specially in its narrative parts when it describes the magnificient of palaces and old traditions-, the environment of a remote period.
As it only contains one shots it is easy to follow it if you want to read it while travelling around or if you only want to take a breack from other non-end mangas.
Highle recommended! Don´t forget this mangaka other works, I am right now reading them and they are just WONDERFUL you get to know Chine culture with beautiful and realistic draws.
P.D: I wanted to put the English one but couldn´t find it and since I couldn´t manage to do it with that ISBN because there was this one in here already registered. But if you are interested in it I must say its title. It is Yama ni Sumu Kami, in English it is called "The God who lives in the mountain". I hope perhaps you can find it. It is composed by five short stories.

Si te gusta la Historia o al menos un ambiente anciano, de esos extrañamente lejanos y un dibujo del que no te puedes quejar, pues no peca de detalles, si no encuentras tiempo para lecturas demasiado complejas o que se alargan eternamente, si te apetece leer manga pero sin complicarte en culebrones nipones, este es un buen manga para ello.
Recomiendo encarecidamente leer sus otras obras, son MARAVILLOSAS, conoces a la China ancestral y a la China ocupada, las historias son sencillas y bien desarrolladas y los dibujos no son para nada los ojos gigantescos y jóvenes escuálidos sino realistas y bellos.

Yes, Matsumoto didn´t specially catch my eye with its -dunno if this mangaka is a she or he- style. It is different from what I am used to: big noses, skinny faces, the lines are kind of stiff sometimes. But while I was reading I found myself inmersed in it and I found boys far handsome than at first sight.
What is important is its -the mangaka´s- way of telling stories and its way of giving us good romances without stupid or overrated flowers floating around the main couples. On the contrary, this mangaka create a whole love story dispensing dramatic scenes or too sweet scenes.
There is only a failure, but for me it isn´t at all. You will find it if you read this mangaka´s stories. As for me, I will make sure of keeping my eye on its following works.

Para quienes han leído mucho shojo, Matsumoto es un gra descubrimiento. Un dibujo sencillo, sin pretensiones, bien ejecutado y limpio, sin fruslerías vanas que entorpezcan el avance de una maravillosa historia. Matsumoto es la mangaka que lleva al nivel de novela gráfica sus historias, que rompe los esquemas de una lectora voraz de mangas que ha visto demasiados clichés.
Hay una única pega que no mencionaré para no desnimar, si quieres iniciarte un poco en el estilo de esta mangaka te recomiendo "That summer", "Ese verano", un one shot cortito que contiene el nivel lírico de las escenas de Matsumoto. Quizá exagere, pero después de entusiasmarme con escenas cómicas y sin sentido no viene mal leer shojos que son tan sosegadamente conmovedores como lo son los de esta (o este) mangaka.

Mis ingredientes que casi nunca fallan, los tiene: drama, romance e histórico. Y romance no rosa, sino rojo, ensangrentado, pasional.
El dibujo: sencillo, elegante, que te place verlo y esos ropajes, y la textura de las melenas.
El contexto: muy bien construido, es creíble -queda un poco secundario ... (continue)

Y, ojo, llevo nada leído, pero es que el plateamiento, la localización, el dibujo, el guión... todo tiene una pinta de que va a convertirse en uno de esos pocos mangas que sorprenden, y con calidad.
Imaginad que una plaga arrasa la población masculina en un Japón feudal y los roles se invierten...
A ver qué tal, pero las nueve primeras páginas me han creado una expectativa de estar ante algo grande...
Tres palabras: Y lo fue.
