Ogni tanto dà i brividi.
"Man is the only real enemy we have. Remove Man from the scene, and the root cause of hunger and overwork is abolished forever. Man is the only creature that consumes without producing. He does not give milk, he does not lay eggs, he is too weak to pull the plough, he cannot run fast enough to catch rabbits. Yet he is lord of all the animals. He sets them to work, he gives back to them the bare minimum that will prevent them from starving, and the rest he keeps for himself."

Wow. Ed io che erroneamente lo credevo un banale classico con storie di viaggi ed avventure. Cinismo imperante, satira pungente, realismo quasi soffocante, iperbole del disgusto per la propria razza.

Wow. Ed io che erroneamente lo credevo un banale classico con storie di viaggi ed avventure. Cinismo imperante, satira pungente, realismo quasi soffocante, iperbole del disgusto per la propria razza.
"In chosing persons for all employments, they have more regard to good morals than to great abilities; for, since government is necessary to mankind, they believe that the common size of human understanding is fitted to some station or other; and that Providence never intended to make the managements of public affairs a mistery to be comprehended only by a few persons of sublime genius, of which there seldom are three born in an age: but they suppose truth, justice, temperance, and the like, to be in every man's power; the practice of which virtues, assisted by experience and good intentions would qualify any man for the service of his country, except where a course of study is required. Letto in lingua. Nonostante sia un'opera incompleta, mi è piaciuta moltissimo! Molto scorrevole, senza pausa narrative eccessive, anche leggero, se vogliamo, con molta azione. E tuttavia l'abbozzata caratterizzazione psicologica del personaggio principale (abbozzata perché mancano molti capitoli) fa ... (continue)

E tuttavia l'abbozzata caratterizzazione psicologica del personaggio principale (abbozzata perché mancano molti capitoli) fa rimpiangere il fatto che Pushkin non l'abbia completato.

Mi trovo attualmente in Russia per uno scambio inteculturale di un anno, ed avevo portato con me ben pochi libri. Ho quindi cominciato a leggere qualsiasi cosa mi capitasse ... (continue)

Una delle cose che mi piace, è sapere "la storia dell'incontro" con un libro. Mi piace sia ascoltarle, che raccontarle. Dunque. Mi trovo attualmente in Russia per uno scambio inteculturale di un anno, ed avevo portato con me ben pochi libri. Ho quindi cominciato a leggere qualsiasi cosa mi capitasse sotto mano, che fosse scritta in una lingua da me compresa. A scuola, la professoressa di inglese della mia sorella ospitante, le ha chiesto di leggere questo libro (o meglio, l'ha chiesto alla sua amica, che l'ha dimenticato a casa nostra). Essendosi ridotta all'ultimo momento, mi ha pregato di leggerlo per lei ed io ho compassionevolmente accettato... :D
E' molto interessante. Si capisce subito l'ambientazione temporale (primi decenni dello scorso secolo), l'argomento trattato è la discriminazione delle persone di colore. Visibilmente destinato a ragazzini in una fascia d'età che ho superato da un po', si è tuttavia lasciato leggere piacevolmente.

Un libro molto valido, senza troppe pretese, che introduce al mondo della linguistica e fornisce moltissime piccole curiosità. Una piccola perla per chi, come me, è appassionato di lingue straniere. Utilizza anche un linguaggio colloquiale e non di difficile comprensione, per chi non avesse un ottim ... (continue)

Un libro molto valido, senza troppe pretese, che introduce al mondo della linguistica e fornisce moltissime piccole curiosità. Una piccola perla per chi, come me, è appassionato di lingue straniere. Utilizza anche un linguaggio colloquiale e non di difficile comprensione, per chi non avesse un ottimo livello nella lingua inglese.
