'A sumptuous novel', the verdict of Politiken is quoted on the cover of this maritime chronicle of the small town of Marstal. And it is indeed. We follow at least three generations of sailors and so many other people that pass by, with so many stories that are kept alive, making one feel almost a part of the town. It is perhaps that unique 'us' narrative. It is 'us' all these people and even more that continue to tell these stories and keep history alive. The characters in the book may be dead, but for us they are alive and kicking.
It's about life, so many themes from life and death are passing by. About lost and refound fathers. First loves, lust, survivals instinct and the bad parts in us, what it does with us and with each other. Each person in the story opens up, as his story is being told on, and we know that it could not be otherwise then the way it all happened.
