A book that make you laugh, cry and something to think about. Mysteries and history are cleverly inserted. The story is advancing from 3 different characters's point of view which make the 722 pages feels like nothing.
Highly recommended! -

OMG this book is hilarious!!
Funny with some historical events and a lot of love between family members. The first 2/3 is just a common comical events, then the story twisted into a shocking phase. I just love it!!

Cool story!
I was also trying so hard to be cool, to be noticed, that most of the time I forget who I am ... or I can say, I don't even know who I am.
"People are giving up easily on the one they love" ... exactly!

I love books that not just telling a story, but also history, and this book is a masterpiece!
The first 1/3 of the book was kind of blabberish, but the rest was so mesmerizing that I couldn't sleep without finishing it first. Though I had quite few problems with the local-English written on it, I s ... (

I's afriad I need to read lots and lots of books to understand the humor.
For me, the mysteri is too simple to crack, not the book kind of mysteries books that enable me to stay awake all night. But I might re-read this book if I want to improve my English. -

If you are interested in Polish' political history, you might love this book. It's a story of an British teacher who went to Poland in 1980 to make a living.
A quote from page 42~43:
"You see it is a question of censorship. In this country everything must be passed by censor's office."
"... but surely before too long Solidarnosc will start agitating to abolish, or at least reduce, the power of the censor..."
She shrugged.
"Maybe. I don't know, but I don't think so. I know it is all a little crazy at the moment, but I think that when things calm down a little Solidarnosc will find the censor very useful. When solidarnosc is a bit less - youthful - then I think they will see things differently. On mature reflection I suspect you will find that most Poles actually want to keep the censor."
"... But you misunderstand the poles I think. There is a difference between what they want and what they say they want. If you take a way the censor you will make them all responsible for themselves. That is the last thing they want. ... They need authority over them. The nation exists only in opposition to a threat: without that threat they all collapse. also in a practical way, you can say that the censor keeps the milicja off the writers' backs. They are never in trouble simply because the censor is the writer's protector.
