Maybe even better than the Pillars of the Earth. Less architecture (which, by itself, it's a pity), but more history. Compelling. As usual, writing is nothing particularly brilliant, but the storytelling makes up for everything laking in word crafting. Awesome

Back to 1984! -
Frightening. I've delayed reading the final chapters for fear of a terrible ending. I was only half disappointed, luckyly I dare say.
I't horrible to see where the so called "free" world is heading to. With all the security, screenings, DRM, CCTV cameras, Echelon and the like, Little Brother t ... (

A good example of a "closed chamber" mystery. So delightful fin-de-siecle, even if written well beyond 1900..
Quite funny and captivating, it gives a clever solution to the mystery of the closed door. And is the first one to show the journalist/detective Joseph Rouletabille ("roll your ball") -

I want to go to India!
Well written, but most of all, an exceptionally good novel. Too packed of actions and feats and facts to be autobiographic, it's a new genre of fictional semi/auto/bio.
Based on real life events it uses them to build an enthralling kind of novel.
Read it and pac ... (continue ) -

The most complex book I've read so far: mainly due to the french language used in such an outrageous way.
Fascinating. Every page is worth reading and rereading, and it has plenty of quotable sentences, mostly sharprly witty.
The book itself is a desperate plunge in the darkness and grande ... (continue ) -

Mooooolto divertente.

I love Banks, so I'can't (and don't even try to) be objective. I've loved the way it's written: I can easily imagine Banks quietly laughing, while he's written part of this book. Very nice the alternation of second person (quite unusual) and third person in the telling.
As usual with many of h ... (continue ) -

Fine book, well written and with a powerful (flowing) epic. But I couldn't help reading it and thinking (with even great admiration) to Coppola and its courage to use it as a synopsis for Apocalypse Now.
