...ContinuaThis is probably one of the best books I have ever read. You would think that reading a teenager's diary would be predictable and boring, but that is not the case here. I'm not surprised that people have questioned the diary's authenticity. Anne is exceptionally bright (which makes you wonder how intelligent Margot is since Anne says she is the smart one) and a great writer. At times I was wondering if perhaps it was just the translators who made her writing better than it actually was. I don't think so. You can tell by the way that she thinks that it is really her. Over the pages you can see Anne grow and mature. She is only a teenager, yet she is wise beyond her years. Despite her extraordinary situation you can see many of the struggles that are common to teenagers and all people.
I especially liked the book because I felt like Anne shares a lot of common personality traits with me. I loved her honesty, she wasn't afraid to say it like it is or talk about things that would make some people feel uncomfortable. I feel like the way that our minds think and ruminate is something we share as well. There are also things like the love of nature that made me feel like we would have been good friends had we known each other. That is why her writing is so brilliant, she writes in her journal as if she is writing to her best friend, someone she can confide everything to, and it really leaves her mark on the pages. Her soul lives on through the profound words that she captured in her diary.
At one point in her diary she mentions that she would like to be a writer some day, that she wants to do something that people will remember her by long after she is gone. Little did she know that her dream would come true, through an ordinary diary. A must read.
TRADUZIONE

It is quite amazing to read such well written prose by a 13 year old young girl. The school works done by HK monster parents pale in comparison. No wonder that the authenticity of the diary had been challenged ever since its publication.
"It's difficult in times like these: ideals, dreams and cherished hopes rise within us, only to be crushed by grim reality. It's a wonder I haven't abandoned all my ideals, they seem so absurd and impractical. Yet I cling to them because I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart.
I see the world being slowly transformed into a wilderness, I hear the approaching thunder that, one day, will destroy us too, I feel the suffering of millions. Any yet, when I look up at the sky, I somehow feel that everything will change for the better, that this cruelty too will end, that peace and tranquility will return once more. In the meantime, I must hold on to my ideals. Perhaps the day will come when I'll be able to realise them!"
The above paragraphs are found near the end of Anne's diary, which aptly serve as a kind of conclusion of her observation about the pain and suffering during the war. What made her so optimistic is a mystery to me and I truly admire her, but I would still insist that most people are wicked at heart. All people want to preserve are their own worthless lives and self-interest.
