Davvero un bel romanzo che, nelle trame del giallo, disegna con grande respiro l'ambiente dell'Inghilterra tra fine '800 e inizi del '900. Il protagonista di questo caso, storicamente vero, è Conan Doyle che viene rivitalizzato da Barnes in un ritratto preciso e affascinante. Gli viene affiancato George, un personaggio solo apparentemente meno smagliante, inglese meno tipico solo dal punto di vista esteriore. Consiglio a chi ha voglia di un viaggio nell'Inghilterra dell'epoca e di una prosa calda e avvolgente.

Now about to start 'Endings' - that last page is in sight hurrah! I have had to fix myself a comfort snack (at 1 a.m.!) to girder the strength to force myself through to that longed for finish. I cannot have this dangling like the sword of Damocles over a perfectly good Monday so I'm away with gritted teeth.
