And then for a whole family tree of American writers (not for everyone of them) things weren't going to be the same anymore. They started feeling like what was left to them was just write down their own impossibility to be Hemingway. Not having big game to hunt in Africa, or Parisian cafès to drink in (Hemingway's Paris features at two or three points in this book), they were forced to write down the trivial things they were drowning in, their impossibility to be heroes in the giant flow of cocaine, advertising and pop-art that the second half of the 20th century was. This is a book written by those that an older character in the same book calls "pygmies." And yet, there is craft in this pygmy writing, there is irony and rhythm and a great desire for greater spiritual things, while being trapped in the hell that is Manhattan....Continua
