When a mysterious package is delivered to Robin Ellacott, she is horrified to discover that it contains a woman's severed leg.
Her boss, private detective Cormoran Strike, is less surprised but no less alarmed. There are four people from his past who he thinks could be responsible - and Strike knows that any one of them is capable of sustained and unspeakable brutality.
With the police focusing on the one suspect Strike is increasingly sure is not the perpetrator, he and Robin take matters into their own hands, and delve into the dark and twisted worlds of the other three men. But as more horrendous acts occur, time is running out for the two of them......Continua
I listened to all the three novels written by the Rowling under the pseudonym of Galbraith as they are extremely easy to understand and you have to pay not great attention to the plot and details. Obviously, the success is due to her fame as Henry Potter’s author. They are enjoyable popular chick lit novels with the pretence of being thriller: basically trivial bestsellers out of the fame of their author (they sold nothing before it was known she was the writer). A TV series will come out this autumn and I couldn’t believe they are comparing Cormoran Strike to Inspector Morse. Are they joking? Collin Dexter was a great crime writer: no comparison with such a novice focused more on the characters’ love lives than on crime story.....Continua
Well-plotted and interesting, but far too gruesome. The detailed and horrifying descriptions reminded me of some American thrillers (James Patterson's, for instance). Too close to reality so not ideal for escapism. After this one I'm not sure I'll keep on reading Cormoran's stories should more come out....Continua
