The target audience for this book is young adults, and although I am older than that I still enjoyed it. I read it after my wife got it out from the library (she is a teacher). The book uses a novel premise of the afterlife to encourage you to think about what is important your 'real life'. I enjoyed this Young Adult novel. It was a unique story about what might happen in the afterlife. Liz, a fifteen year old girl wakes up on a boat and discovers that she was hit by a car and now she is on her way to "Elsewhere", what the afterlife in this book is called. Liz definitely isn't accepting of her fate and the book takes off from there. It wasn't a sappy book at all but it did have some emotional moments. This is narrated by 15 yr old Liz who has been tragically killed in a hit & run. It's her journey from earth to Elsewhere and how she is dealing w/being killed before she really had a chance to live. She makes friends along the way and listens to their story. She observes her family and friends mourning her loss from places called Observation Decks. She experiences a mix of emotions along the way.
I have the feeling that the author was just shooting from the hip as she wrote the story which, to me, makes the story seem long and not very interesting. I personally find it lacking in an ability to pull me into the story. The the first word that comes to mind to explain this book is "boring".
