This story is loosely based on the life experiences of the author's own grandmother and is a compelling coming of age story.
I loved this novel. I actually listened to it, but I own a signed copy. I thought the narrator, Trini Alvarado, was wonderful. I had the opportunity to see the author speak at WEMA. The great thing about the novel is that it is somewhat biographical of Ryan's grandmother and her journey to the United States during the Great Depression.
