This is a combination of funny memoir type essays and a few bits of short fiction. The short fiction is almost entirely awful, but the essays - "Santaland Diaries" and "Six to Eight Black Men" in particular - are fantastic.
I enjoyed the author's observations working as a holiday elf very much. Didn't care much for the following essays though.
I first read this book in print about 8 years ago and fell in love with Sedaris' irreverent take on the Christmas holiday. Shortly after I discovered the audio version, narrated by Sedaris himself, and listening to it has become a holiday tradition. The SantaLand Diaries are particularly good.
