I made a mistake: I read the comic before the novel. On the other hand, I received both together as a gift, and the novel clocks in at 500+ pages... so I started with the low hanging fruit.
While the comic didn't ruin the novel for me, maybe it ruined itself - there is a chance that reading it after the novel I could have taken some nuances better. On the other hand I never really liked anthologies by different authors. And Luna Moth (the main female character from the "roster") was pretty weak for me, even if in the novel she has a pretty interesting backstory.
Personally, I am happy that Gene Colan (a personal favourite since the times of early Daredevil stories) makes an appearance here. For the rest, while the idea of The Escapist is surely interesting, and at the same distils and hints at ideas and concepts from a thousand iconic characters ... the fact remains that taking disconnected stories, and trying to mimic the style of Golden Age comics does not work anymore, not for me at least....Continua
