...ContinuaA cylindrical thing approaches the solar system, and a ship is sent to discover the mystery behind it, they find it’s a self-contained mini world, apparently empty until it begins to activate.
The exploration parts of the novel are really interesting, it really conveys the feeling of facing something new, different. The parallel of Captain Norton to Cook helps it even more. Also the Mercury missile shows how some people are so easily scared of the unknown that is easier for them to destroy than to try to understand.
Too bad the novel ends so abruptly, the Rama world turning off and travelling away when it was beginning to become interesting by the sudden spring of life. Would have really liked to know more about the Rama world
Davvero bello e suggestivo questo romanzo di Clarke. Personalmente l'ho trovato molto migliore di 2001 Odissea nell spazio. Ho trovato ammirevole la sua plausibilità scientifica. Le deroghe dalle leggi della fisica sono praticamnte nulle. L'intelligenza e la "simmetria" aliena di Rama, e l'investigazione scientifica dell'ignoto sono espresse in maniera affascinante.

This is the first of four books on an extraordinary adventure in the world of Rama. A rendez-vous with imagination at its best. What seems to be a planet at first is an interstellar spacecraft and the humans want to know who and why.
After 25 years this masterpiece is still a great reading.
