I recently reread this one--
I classify this as Sci-Fi Horror from a first person viewpoint. And it's chilling.
You don't know when or where they are. Neither do the people on the ship. They've lost their history and they've lost their original mission. Now they are just a lone ship powering between stars. Earth was a long time and a Long ways and long generations behind them. Before them is the unknown and the dark.
Then they come onto a silent planet than used to have a settlement. . except everyone is now dead: Tortured, Murdered. Exterminated.
So they leave that world and at the edge of the system they encounter a dead alien ship. They begin to explore and to question. . .until too late, the alien hulk reveals itself to be a trap and awakes. Now they cannot run and they cannot fight.
I felt cold reading this book yet again.
This is what Old Sci-Fi was about at the dark edges: Space is Vast. And Old. And in the Darkness can be found Monsters. . ....Continua
