Excellent collection of essays. This series is very good (The Best American...) and I have now read a few of them.*
This particular collection has articles about the state of Biblical archaeology (not good if you believe the Judeao-Christian Bible to be an accurate historical document); the ridiculously scary implications of missile defense programs, particularly the American one (shades of Doctor Strangelove in action); a sceptical look at 9/11; a truly fascinating piece on low-fat vs low-carbohydrate diets - have we been mislead by nutrition advice up to now?; human memory and its faults - the unreliability of eye-witnesses; evolutionary psychology; and much more.
The introduction by Richard Dawkins is a pleasure to read, as always.
Paperback Binding: superior quality. Flexible spine, thin paper. Paper and glue not stiff or prone to cracking the spine. Should survive many years of use.
* There are several series under the venerable The Best American... umbrella (going since 1915): science, science and nature, short stories, essays, recipes, travel writing, poetry, and so on. These collections seem to me to be of a high standard. See Wikipedia on this at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Best_American_series.
...ContinuaVery educational, and some essays are so engrossing that they read like novels.
