he'd be Mulisch. I didn't have the courage to buy the original Dutch version, because it's a big fat long book; but the translation is excellent. It's a rambling, absurd novel about angels, Heaven, astronomy, friendship, fatherhood, and lots of weird asides and tangents, which make it even enjoyable when you just open it on a random page and read some bit. They also made a movie out of it, of course they had to simplify it to death so it can't compare....Continua
The Discovery Of Heaven was rather a heavy read, in terms of food for the mind (very philosophical in content). I like that though, because it means I can keep reading it and get a lot out of it every time, for the next 5-10 times at least!
It was also adapted for the big screen, and quite well too. I recommend both very highly....Continua
