The ending is why I've given this such a low rating. It actually made me angry and I feel like I wasted my time. That's all I can say without giving it away.
When I read the synopsis of this book, I thought it was going to be a really cool spy thriller. I expected a strong and capable female lead. Well, that is not what is contained within the pages. The main character (Marian) is far too immature to even be a spy. Not only that, the theme of this novel is more about her "sexual awakening" than it is about her job. It struck me as absolutely ridiculous how she chose to lose her virginity. It was also equally ridiculous that an undercover agent wouldn't even try to tone down her looks. She's not supposed to attract attention and yet German officers are trying to pick her up at every turn! She was meant to become plain, but I guess that completely slipped her mind.
I'm sorry to say that everything about this book was a disappointment. And it really is a shame since it was inspired by history. Instead of being a homage to female spies in WWII, it struck me as an insult since Marian acted so stupidly. I could say more, but I don't want to spoil the plot for people who actually want to read this book (though I wouldn't recommend it)....Continua
