Speaking at an official press conference at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, U.S., on Monday (Nov. 18), Messi said, "My decision to move to the U.S. was based on both the game and my family's life. I'm happy with the experience I'm having in the United States and the response I'm getting from the fans."
This was Messi's first official press conference since announcing his decision to join Inter Miami in June.
Messi joined the Barcelona (Spain) youth team in 2000, where he played until 2021. He then made a surprise move to PSG in 2021, where he played for two years before opting to join Inter Miami.
"The move to PSG two years ago was something I didn't want to do. I didn't want to leave Barcelona," he confessed.
Two years ago, Barcelona was in financial trouble and refused to re-sign Messi, who was a highly paid player. Messi even agreed to take a pay cut, but the club was unable to keep him. Messi broke down in tears as he left Barcelona after more than 20 years.
"When I moved to PSG, 일본야동 I was exposed to a completely different environment, to football, than I was at Barcelona. I needed time to get used to the new place," he said of his time at PSG, adding, "It was definitely a challenge."
At the end of his two-year contract with PSG, Messi was approached by Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal. But he chose the American scene for his family.
In the United States, Messi has been at the top of his game. Messi has nine goals in the 2023 League Cup, including scoring in all six games. Thanks to Messi's play, the league's lowest-ranked team, Inter Miami, is in the final and looking to win the title.
"It would be amazing for me, for the team, for the fans, and for the whole club," Messi said, adding that winning the club's first trophy would be a great result for Inter Miami.
