You really read a lot
Allright, I was referring to the second one. Thanks! : )

Why I prefer Lee? Or why I am discontent? For the first question, Lee's book compared the Southern private workers and Northern state workers and tried to develop a framework. For the second question, I wish the new studies of Chinese labor can bring some historical perspectives back.
may I know why? :)

I personally prefer Lee's book, but I am not satisfied with the recent books about contemporary Chinese worker's collective actions so far.
Yes, I agree. In fact I think his comments on the present situation are more fitting than his narrative about Mao's planning. Now I'm stuck with Brenner vs Duménil debate and i didn't read Phillon's book yet. I should pick up one between it or Against the law by Ching Kwan Lee. Which one would you suggest?

Yes, but I think that Chris Bramall's conclusions are tentative. He may overestimate Mao's achievements in terms of development. Btw, I know Joel, he is good.
Hey there. Nice to see you like both Joel Andreas and Stephen Phillon's books, as I've planned to read both. Have you ever read anything by Chris Bramall? He's a strong authority in chinese development studies.
