The first round of the second round of Asian qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup North America has come and gone with no upsets. In the same group as South Korea, China won against Thailand. North Korea lost to Syria.
Jürgen Klinsmann's South Korea national soccer team cruised to a 5-0 victory over Singapore on Saturday at the Seoul World Cup Stadium, with relay goals from Cho Kyu-sung (Mitwillan), Hwang Hee-chan (Wolverhampton), Son Heung-min (Tottenham), Hwang Eui-jo (Norwich City) and Lee Kang-in (Paris Saint-Germain).
South Korea topped the group, while Singapore slipped to the bottom of the table in fourth place. In the Thailand-China match in the same group in Bangkok, Thailand, the visitors defeated Thailand 2-1.
Thailand took the lead in the 23rd minute with a left-footed mid-range volley from Sarat Yuen, but conceded an equalizer to China's Wu Lei six minutes later. With the score tied at 1-1, Wang Sangyuan headed home a cross from She Fengfei in the 29th minute to give China the win.
China finished second in the group, tied with South Korea on three points but behind on goal difference. Thailand is third. China will play South Korea at home on Nov. 21.
North Korea dropped to third place in Group B after a 0-1 loss to Syria in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. In the same group, Japan beat Myanmar 5-0 at home to move to the top of the group.
Malaysia, coached by Kim Pang Gon, finished second in the group with a hard-fought 4-3 win over Kyrgyzstan at home.
Indonesia, coached by Shin Tae-yong, dropped to fourth in the group after a 1-5 loss to Iraq on the road.
