Public comments on Wakayama IR plan will run through March 10

Japan's Wakayama prefectural government on Wednesday began the process of gathering public input on a regional development plan for a slope at a casino complex, or integrated resort (IR). The deadline for submitting comments is March 10, according to GGRAsia's Japan correspondent.

On Monday, the Wakayama prefectural council committee tasked with investigating local IR efforts released a statement saying its plans and fundraising for such projects were "still unclear."

The committee agreed to begin the public opinion gathering phase after highlighting the deadline for the Wakayama prefectural government (pictured) to submit to the government by April 28.

Clarevest Nim Ventures KK is leading the project proposal with some participation from U.S.-based casino operator Caesars Entertainment Corp.

A budget of 470 billion yen ($4.07 billion) has previously been mentioned for casino resorts in Wakayama.

Under Japan's casino liberalization agreement, qualified local governments must have private sector partners to develop projects. Under Japan's liberalization system, up to three such facilities will be allowed in Japan.
